Injury

I could not believe when I felt it last Sunday. I was just planning to hit the ball coming towards me with my left foot. Upon contact, I felt 2 snaps in the hamstring area and from then onwards it was pain all the way. I had injured my hamstring. My trusted left foot which had served me faithfully are showing signs of giving way to old age. This is not a good notification as I had always been a person who did not need to do much warm up before any exercise and would have no problems. Perhaps the signs were already there the week before after the soccer game when I felt some tightness and strain in that area.  I thought after a week of rest, it would recover but alas it didn't.

My old friend was also sharing with me yesterday night how his knee would pain even when he swim and could feel that it is giving way... Such is life when the body is no longer youthful and recovery is not as fast as it used to be. I also commented that this is probably due to us not taking care of our bodies. Spending too much time in office working deskbound and not using the body, it is only natural they would start 'rusting'. A part of me really dislike deskbound jobs but at the same time, when you are on the move all the time, it is also tiring as you still need to get some paper work done after that. To strike a balance at such times is not easy when the workload is too much at times.

I think I will be out of soccer action at least 2 weeks before I assess my condition again. I can still walk normally so it does not affect my daily duties. I am doing daily stretching to help the muscle heal back properly in case it "forgets" how capable it should be. This injury also made me more determine to exercise whenever possible. I don't want my sporty parts to rust away like this without a fight!

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Visited Siem Reap on 7-11 Dec 08. For those who love rich asian culture (Angkor Wat) and want to experience some spectacular countryside/rural landscape scenics, Cambodia is the place to go! I truly enjoyed the trip! =)

Not recommended for "strawberry" generations. You can remain in your comfortable garden and continue to dream that the world owes you and revolves around you.

Stomp and SiteX

I had visited the Stomp website for the first time the day before. There were some photos taken by the public which were surprising and interesting. Among those that caught my attention was improper behaviour at MRTs and Buses. In particular, there was this lady was caught fighting on bus 88 with another aunite over a seat. Apparently, the lady was being called a "xiangji" by the auntie and they broke into a scuffle, all caught on mobile. I wonder how did the person actually manage to capture the scene without being noticed. Got a feeling he pretended he was calling someone and faced his ear at the scene. The bus driver had to stop the bus to end the short melee. There were also nice members of public who try to mediate the situation. If you are interested in strange happenings around Singapore everyday, you can visit this website.

Also visited Sitex in the afternoon. There was a usual crowd and lotsa of gadgets on sale and display. 2GB thumbdrives going for $9 only. I bought mine for $20 about 4 months back! I think thumdrives are going to be worthless very soon. Not a very good business to go into. I was also looking at cameras, mini notebooks and game consoles. It only reminded me how poor I am..hahaha...Bought nothing in the end. I do like the USB fan which I saw though. The design made it look like a cute coconut tree or wind mill. My current desk area in office is quite warm so I though the fan may come in handy to dissipate the heat emitted by my notebook. However, at the moment, I find the cost too high.  I had been wanting to get a game console as well but I can't decide on a Xbox, Wii or PS3 or whether I have time to play after buying at all. I mean, shouldn't I be concentrating my energy on work instead? Today is just a cursory scan so I think I may go back tomorrow to get the things I want and can afford.hahaha..

Tomorrow morning is a soccer session with my sec sch mates again. I really look forward to getting together with them and exercising. I love these sessions tremendously and hope it can continue. Kudos to ah hao for allowing us to play in there!

Unforgettable weekend

15-17 November 2008

Last week was quite a memorable week for me personally. My primary sch friend was getting married and I was organising a bachelor's night for him as well as to take part in this wedding. I can't really review the happenings that night as I am not sure who will be reading this. But I just want to make a note on this space and remind myself that such a happy event took place in my part of life and I can go to my photo and video albums to take a look again when needed. Sometimes, I think it's important to remind yourself of happy moments of life too in the midst of all the mundane work and stupid rat race we are all caught up with in one way or another.

To be honest, I have never plan such a event before. But I am glad things turn out well in the end and everyone seem to enjoy themselves with the games. Credit must also go to my fellow brothers and my special one for providing me with all the wacky ideas. =). I think everyone was generally cooperative and sporting. I truly had a good time and so did the groom. =P

The wedding was spectacular too and I must thank God that the montage and music went on well. It was also good to see so many old friends at Novetel. I wonder how eveyone is doing right now as I was busy with the montage preparation so did not really went about to socialise. Also, somehow, I am begining to feel tired about making small talks with people. I mean, what if they don't really want to talk to me? I wonder if it has to do with my current job. Anyway, haha. Some have really change much in appearance and put on some weight (a sign of good life) while some remain largely the same and recognisable. Some also developed good fashion sense while some left others wondering what kind of fashion was this person trying to portray. =).

I was also introduce to an article by a very good friend of mine. It was really a gripping and interesting article. Even though I was really tired that night, I finished really it with ease and could apprecaite the contents. My life so far has been meandering indeed, at times, taking a longer path than others. But who knows where this will take me in the end. I do hope that all these unqiue experiences have made me into a better person one way or another. The point is, I still want to believe that one should do the things you like in your life and have as little regrets as possible. I would really like to pursue my art interests as well as cooking, not to mentioned singing and hopefully to learn to play a musical instrument.  There are still quite a number of things to try in my life and it's never too late to do so unless you think it's too late. It's really true that the greatest enemy is often yourself.

Wow!

19 Feb 08. I can't believe that was the last time I blogged. Now at home watching Tv with my mum, dad and bro... family time is getting more and more into me. Sometimes they wonder ( me too) why I spend so much time outdoors, I know they prefer their children by their side. If I were a parent, I would probably hope to see my children often as well. We don't live forever so I think it's important we spend some time with people who really need us.

I had a friend who recently commented that he was happy to get rid of people who do not make him happy. He was quite tired of showing concern for people who take him for granted or even take him for a ride. Personally I had such encounters as well in my limited career life. You treat the person with politeness and he returns with sneer or a sacarstic remark, demeaning your genuine concern and making you seem like an idiot. After a while, you wonder if you really should continue to respond to this person. But chances are, you still have to do it coz maybe you need to see him very often and there is no way you can avoid such encounters. So what happens when you have to live with such a thing?

One thing for sure, I will make sure I do not allow myself to be victimised by such "bully" acts. Maybe the person doesn't even know but I say he sure has a lot to learn to manage people's feelings. After seeing such acts, it also reminded me that no matter how competent I become in years to come, I will never treat people like that. I am never a person who likes confrontation but witnessing such attrocious attitude is making me more and more sick.
Why is it that people in powerful positions must behave like that? Or rather, it makes me wonder if you have to behave like that so that you can reach 'higher grounds' in the corporate world? It's too much of a coincidence at times seeing people in such positions behaving this way.

We are all humans. No matter what ground you are in, we all have to die one day. Treat your people well and they will help you in return. Show them your lousy attiude and people will work only for you because they have no choice.  But that's probably fine too if you are not interested in making friends at all. And when you are in trouble one day, you can be sure people who you have hurt before will think 10 times before they stretch their hand to help you.

What am I writing about? Just some ramblings.. But that's blogging isn't it.
